Book Club - Coming Soon!

Do you have a student who loves reading? Do they love talking about characters, plot details, and themes? Would they enjoy being a part of a group that reads a new book together every 1-2 weeks?

If so, ask your child to email Mrs. Santos about joining our after-school student Book Club! gsantos@cps.k12.in.us.

Fees: No fees upfront - however, parents/guaridans should be wiling to help your student obtain books from time to time (library, digital copy, Amazon, etc)

The Broadcast Committee is a fun way to get involved at the Colonel. Students report news, interests and highlights of events going on at the Colonel. Students run a broadcast production with green screen technology and editing. Students will have to be availble during advisory or after school to record. Recording could take place on different days during the week.

National Junior Honor Society is open to second semester 6th, all 7th, and all 8th graders who have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.75 out of 4.0.  Invitations are sent to candidates the second semester of each school year. These candidates complete a Student Activity Form listing any leadership positions, service activities, community activities, and other recognitions or awards.  A committee of five faculty members reviews each student's activity form as well as his/her scholarship (GPA).  This council makes the decisions for membership. Those students chosen for membership into the National Junior Honor Society attend an induction ceremony in May.  Thereafter, each member must maintain a 3.5 out of 4.0 GPA and complete National Junior Honor Society service and leadership projects, both group and individual.

Spell Bowl is a state competition hosted at the beginning of November each year. All students at Col. John Wheeler Middle School are eligible to join the spell bowl team. Students are selected for the spell bowl competition after studying the approximately 1400 words on the list. Practices are held twice a week for an hour after school. Students are quizzed on the words at practice. They identify the words they need to study for the competition.
